A new initiative through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Okanagan is looking for some role models.

President of BBSO, Rick Maddison, says there is a specific need for Big Brothers in the Okanagan for boys aged seven to 12.

“Through the Big Heroes Wanted campaign, we hope to build awareness among potential mentors about the real benefits of

being a Big Brother or Sister. BHW focuses on how even though you may not see yourself as a superhero, that’s exactly the way a kid may see you,” says Maddison.

He says an hour a week is all that it can take to make a difference to a child in need of a mentor.

“If you are 19 to 99 years-old and can spare an hour a week, you can become a Big Brother or Sister as part of the BBBSO’s In-School Mentoring program.”

The Big Heroes Wanted initiative is sponsored by Interior Savings Credit Union.

Nation-wide, some 10,000 children are waiting to be matched up with a Big Brother or Sister.
