In 2010 Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Okanagan provided critical community services to 401 children and their families throughout the valley.
General Program Sponsorship
Donors can support general programs with donations of their discretion. These funds will go to support the expansion and sustainability of current Big Brother and Big Sister mentoring programs throughout the Okanagan.
Community Mentoring Program Sponsorships
Businesses can support community matches by providing opportunities for match activities in the community by covering the costs of a match or matches attending events like hockey games, plays at the community theatre, museums, seeing a movie, going skiing, and waterslides, etc.
In-School Mentoring Program Sponsorships
An individual or business can adopt a school for one year to support its Big Brothers Big Sisters In-School Mentoring programs. These funds are used to provide the necessary program materials and equipment.
Match Activity Bins & Parties: $1000 This provides Matches with books, games, puzzles, arts/crafts supplies and sports equipment for use during their meetings as well as three annual group activities.
Breakfast Program: $1000 Children attending schools participating in our In-School Mentoring program have access to a nutritional breakfast, thanks to Cobbs Bread and Sun-Rype. This sponsorship covers the cost of one freezer and/or refrigerator, toasters, condiments, and plastic cutlery.
Go Girls! Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds: $1000 This group based mentoring program addresses the physical activity, balanced eating and positive self-image needs of young girls ages 10-14. This sponsorship covers the cost of journals, activities, craft supplies, music, disk player, and healthy snacks and refreshments.
Tool Time: $1000 Big Brothers in the Trade Industry (Electricians, Carpenters, Machinists, Automotive Mechanics, etc) mentor, teach new skills and complete fun and interesting projects with boys ages 10 – 12. This group learning environment creates a sense of pride and accomplishment building a child’s self esteem. This sponsorship covers the cost of tools, building supplies and healthy snack and refreshments.
Employee Volunteer Program
Employers can support and encourage employees to volunteer as mentors in the Big Brothers Big Sister In-School Mentoring program by providing a flexible work schedule or allowing volunteer time to occur during lunch or permitting volunteer time to be during paid work time.
Employee Giving Program: Charitable Donation Payroll Deduction
Employers can provide employees the option of making a donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters through a payroll deduction. Some employers match employee deductions at the end of the year to a maximum amount.
